Common Questions About Liposuction: A Guide To Fat Removal Surgery

Liposuction, or fat removal surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to target specific areas of the body where fat has accumulated. To be a suitable candidate for this procedure, the patient should be near their ideal weight.

Our expert plastic surgeons in Albania have extensive experience and can perform various types of liposuction based on each patient’s needs and requirements. Additionally, we have addressed all common questions about liposuction to help you better understand the procedure.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that is designed to contour the body by removing stubborn fat that cannot be addressed by exercising and eating healthy. During this procedure, the surgeon will remove the fat by using a cannula that is connected to a suction device.

The main areas that liposuction aims to treat are the abdomen, thighs, hips, arms, neck, and buttocks.

How Do Liposuction And Liposculpture Differ From Each Other?

With liposuction, fat that is difficult to remove is extracted using a cannula. For those who are looking to have a sculpted or contoured body, liposculpture will be more suited since it targets smaller regions to provide more definition.

What Type Of Fat Is Liposuction Designed To Remove?

The purpose of liposuction is to eliminate subcutaneous fat, or fat that is located just beneath the skin. Subcutaneous fat grows as we start to gain extra weight.

this will be the excess weight that liposuction will aim to eliminate. It is important to understand that the weight that is located around the internal organs won’t be affected by this procedure.

Can I Improve My Body With The Help Of Liposuction?

Of course, you can improve your body physique with the help of liposuction. If you feel like you have reached your ideal weight but you are struggling to remove stubborn fat then fat removal surgery will be the right choice.

Liposuction will provide great results, especially in this targeted area:

  • Stomach area or love handles.
  • Thigh area.
  • Back area.
  • Breats.
  • Arms.
  • Buttocks.
  • In some cases, liposuction can also be performed on the chin area.

Will I Be Skinnier After Liposuction?

Liposuction itself is not a weight loss procedure and itt purpose its not to make people look skinny. The main purpose of this procedure is to target fat pockets that do not respond well to diet and exercise no matter how much you try.

Each person has a unique body shape. Stubborn fat can be located in different areas of the body, like the back, stomach, thigh arms, etc., and can only be addressed by liposuction. Even though it is not considered a weight loss procedure it will most definitely provide a lot of benefits when it comes to shaping the body and making it more toned and lifted, which can create the illusion of being skinny.

Will The Weight Be Restored After Liposuction?

Even though liposuction offers great results, it is important to understand that the results need to be maintained if you want them to last for a long time. You can maximise the results by eating healthy, exercising, and avoiding unhealthy habits like smoking.

Can I Get Liposuction Twice?

If you find an additional liposuction procedure is necessary you can go for it. However, if you properly maintain the results of the first one this won’t be necessary. Try to eat healthy and exercise regularly to maintain a stable weight.

Will I Get Loose Skin After Liposuction?

Although liposuction works great in addressing stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to healthy eating and exercise, one of its side effects will be loose skin. This will especially be true in cases when the patient ad poor skin elasticity. Additionally, factors like genetics, age, and skin condition will affect the results of the liposuction procedure.

How Much Fat Can Be Removed With Liposuction?

The amount of fat that can be removed during liposuction varies from patient to patient. Some factors that affect this include body type, the location where the fat needs to be removed, and the patient’s general health.

Between two and five litres of fat are typically removed during liposuction, however, this might change based on the area being treated and the special needs of each patient. In general, it is considered dangerous to remove more than five litres of fat in one treatment.

Will I Have A Flatter Belly After Liposuction?

Liposuction is not a weight reduction treatment however it will definitely help create a more toned and contoured stomach. In order to keep these results, the patient should maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy and exercising regularly.

During surgery, the surgeon will aim to remove fat by targeting the subcutaneous tissue, which is the deepest layer beneath the skin. In cases where the patient has significant fat around the organs (visceral fat), the surgeon might recommend a combination of treatments to address it.

Will Liposuction Help Me Reduce The Appearance Of Stretch Marks?

Liposuction is not a weight reduction surgery and it will only be recommended in cases when the patient wants to address pockets of fat that do not respond to other treatments. This being said, no liposuction will not address stretch marks.

Stretch marks are a skin condition that look like long narrow lines that will develop in the body when the skin stretches. The main causes of this condition are weight gain or loss, pregnancy, and hormonal. They can vary in color from bright pink to light beige, which will change with time.

Although liposuction will make the body look more toned and contoured by removing fat from different areas of the body, it will not address stretch marks. This is due to the fact that stretch marks are caused by the damage to the underlying skin layers, and they are not located underneath the skin layers that will targeted by this procedure.

The results of liposuction will depend greatly on the condition of the skin and the amount of excess fat that will be removed. Although the skin will seem smoother and more toned, most likely you will need additional treatments to address stretch marks.

Can Liposuction Affect Pregnancy?

Before deciding to go through with liposuction you should consider every factor including the side effects and possible complications. When it comes to pregnancy, this procedure will not pose any risks so it will be considered safe.

However, to minimize the possibility of side effects, women who are considering the procedure should wait until after giving birth and feel their bodies are close to their ideal weight. This is important because if the procedure is done before pregnancy, the results might be affected by the changes that occur during that time.

If you are considering liposuction it is important to have a consultation with a professional surgeon. During this consultation, you should also mention if you are planning any pregnancy in order to choose the best treatment for you.

Can Liposuction Reverse Diabetes?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that can enhance the body’s contours by removing extra fat from particular body parts. It is not known to cure diabetes; nor will it reverse it.

As you might know, Diabetes is a long-term metabolic disease that affects the body’s ability to break down glucose, or sugar. It is brought on by either an insufficient amount of a hormone or improper usage of the hormone by the body to control blood glucose levels.

While liposuction will be a great way to reshape the body and address excess fat in different areas of the body it won’t be a way to treat diabetes or any other metabolic problems. If you are dealing with this chronic disease you should stick to a healthy diet free of sugar and engage in regular exercise for better results.

Is Stomach Liposuction Worth It?

If you are near your ideal weight and want to improve the shape of your abdominal area, stomach liposuction will be a great way to achieve it. Keep in mind that this is not a weight loss treatment and it will definitely be a proper substitute for a healthy lifestyle.

Is Liposuction Beneficial After Weight Loss?

Yes, liposuction can be highly beneficial once the patient has reached their ideal weight. The primary goal of this procedure is to target stubborn fat deposits that have not responded to diet and exercise. After liposuction, you will likely notice significant improvements in body contours.

Am I Suitable For Liposuction?

Usually, liposuction will be very beneficial for patients who:

  • Are healthy and have reached their weight goal.
  • Have realistic expectations on what can be achieved.
  • Have optimal skin elasticity that will adapt to the new body shape and contours.
  • Want to address excess weight in specific body areas including hips, thighs, stomach, etc.

Keep in mind that liposuction is a surgical procedure that has its one side effects and risk of complications although minimal. Additionally, if you are diagnosed with certain medical conditions like heat problems, blood clotting disorders, diabetes, or cancer, you will not be suitable for this procedure.

Is There A Specific Age For Liposuction?

Although there is not a specific age for liposuction the patient should be over 18. Additionally, the patients should also be healthy and near their ideal weight in order to have better results.

What Are The Different Types Of Liposuction Techniques?

Liposuction comes in different types depending on the technique used and the benefits that they provide. Four main types are:

  1. The most popular liposuction is called “tumescent liposuction,” in which an anesthetic-infused saline solution is injected into the desired location to minimize discomfort and bleeding while helping the removal of fat.
  2. Another commonly used type of liposuction is ultrasound-assisted liposuction which uses ultrasonic waves to make the fat liquid before removing it. In most cases, this procedure will be used in areas like the back or chest.
  3. Laser-assisted liposuction is another type of liposuction that uses laser energy to melt stubborn fat. Additionally, this procedure has other benefits such as skin tightening.
  4. Power-assisted liposuction is another liposuction technique that uses a vibrating cannula to assist break up fat rapidly, making removal simpler and usually takes less time.

The right technique of liposuction for you will depend on several factors including the patient’s requests, needs, area of the body, and that the surgeon will recommend for you.

How Much Weight Can I Lose With Liposuction?

Liposuction in itself is not considered a weight loss procedure, although it can help improve the body’s contour. After the treatment, your body will definitely look more defined and sculpted.

This being said although you can lose some weight, in order to be considered suitable for liposuction you should be at your ideal body weight. Additionally, if you want to maintain the results, you should exercise regularly and keep a healthy diet.

How Long Do Liposuction Results Last?

The results after liposuction will last for a very long time if the patient is able to maintain it, meaning keeping a stable weight. The treatment won’t be able to remove every fat cell so those who remain can grow larger if we continue to gain a lot of weight.

However, even when a few pounds have been gained following liposuction, the remaining fat cells will likely remain in better balance than the rest of the body since there will be fewer of them. The areas of the body that were not liposuctioned, however, may seem disproportionately larger than the rest due to the presence of more fat cells if there is an abnormal increase in weight following the procedure.

This being said, although liposuction is a great procedure to improve the body structure and proportions, it comes with its own limitations that need to be considered. Keep in mind that the results after the procedure need to be properly maintained and they will not grant that you eat whatever you like without worrying.

Gaining weight after the liposuction procedure will even be more problematic since it will make the body look asymmetrical due to the uneven distribution of weight.
